What is OSB? OSB stands for oriented strand board. Its construction is similar to that of plywood, with an opposing orientation of wood fibres. This creates strength and rigidity. OSB has excellent load-bearing properties and is stronger than other composite materials. In keeping with current construction methods of working towards healthier environments, all SMARTPLY MAX panel products have been manufactured using zero-added formaldehyde.
OSB Vs Plywood OSB and plywood can be used for lots of the same types of projects, but the main difference is in how they react to moisture. Plywood will soak up moisture more quickly than OSB, but it will also dry out more quickly and retain its shape. OSB takes longer to dry out and will show more malformation after a wet and dry cycle. For this reason, it is advisable to use a sealant if used on an outdoor structure such as a shed or in roofing.
Is OSB cheaper than plywood? OSB is usually slightly cheaper than plywood — with the difference in price being so minimal, we’d recommend that you choose the product that you think best suits your project needs. However, if you’re looking to push your budget down, OSB will likely work out to be the cheaper timber.
OSB and plywood products Our range of OSB and plywood boards come in different sizes. We have FSC AND non-FSC plywood and our OSB is BBA approved.
