What are the different types of pitched roof windows?
Pitched roof windows will always open, but they come in different types depending on your preference.
Centre pivot windows
Centre pivot windows rotate in the centre from a hinge in the middle of the frame. The opening handle can be found at the top of the window so that it swings out when opened. This means you can place furniture underneath it without restricting movement. It also means the window can be installed lower so you’ll have great views from it and easy access.
Top hung windows
Top hung windows look virtually the same as centre pivot ones, except that the hinge is at the top of the window instead of the middle. The handle to open is at the bottom, meaning the window can swing open wide. It gives great, unspoilt views in loft conversions and lots of daylight. Top hung windows are better accessed when there is no furniture placed in front of them, to save you from having to reach uncomfortably for the handle.
Conservation windows
Conservation windows fit aesthetically into buildings that are under preservation, by meeting the building requirements laid out. This is to ensure any new additions or updates to a building are in keeping with its original features. To check if you need a conservation window, you can contact your local conservation officer.
